I’m a ULD…

I need to be built up carefully so my load doesn’t shift or exceeed my own or the aircraft limitations.

3 “HOT” OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Building up a ULD must be done with proper attention to the limitations of the ULD and the aircraft.
2. Cargo should always be positioned to acheieve load stability, use extra rope or straps to increase stability.
3. Close contaienr doors and secure cargo nets completely every time.

EXPANDED CODE

During Build up always pay attention to the limitations of both the aircraft and the ULD, placing all cargo so that no limits are exceeded. On a pallet the cargo should be stacked in an interlocking manner if possible or provided with alternative stability through ropes or straps. Doors must be correctly closed and nets must be correctly installed. Use of any additional materials to secure the load must be inside the net or container.

A built up ULD may contain many tons of cargo, which must always be positioned and restrained correctly if the load is not to shift during flight or to place excessive loads on the aircraft structure. Final securing of nets or doors is critical to the securing of the load throughout the entire journey.

Loads which are poorly built up or secured may easily shift during ground or air operations, leading to unsafe situations on board the aircraft and compromising ground handling operations.

Assign only operations staff who have undertaken the required training, along with working in a suitable environmemt with all necsessary materials and instructions.
